If you want to grow your personal brand on YouTube, do NOT delete your old videos.

It’s not going to help the algorithm, but it will change the way people think about you.

Here are the long-lasting after effects of deleting old videos:

  • You will seem out of touch
  • Your audience will be intimidated by your “perfection”
  • You can’t look back on your progress
  • You are deleting a time capsule of YOU

😖 I regret deleting my origin story…

When I became an “adult” it was time to let go of those silly ideas of the past, right? Dead wrong.

I thought that in order to get hired, build a following and client base, I had to appear polished and clean — especially on YouTube.

I spent all this time deleting old videos, creating a new YouTube channel, yet I found that my audience and I weren’t on the same page. They couldn’t relate.

🦸‍♀️ Be Your Audience’s Hero

Every one has an origin story. There’s always a Day 1.

When we come into contact with industry experts, many of them feel out of reach. The advice they offer — even though valid — doesn’t land because they are proclaiming it from their Internet Castles.

But what if there was a crappy, low-res video of that expert on their YouTube channel?

💔 Deleting Your Old Videos is Deleting Your Credibility

On your way up the mountain of you creating your 1st 100 videos…

There is going to be a temptation to sort by oldest video and delete those early ones that you did on your webcam with bad lighting and a bad microphone.

You will regret this decision. Show your audience that you too were just like them.

Back then, you didn’t know what you were doing, your YouTube thumbnails were bad, and you couldn’t speak that well on-camera.

You have to show the “Before” photo in order for people to believe the “After” photo.

If you’re just starting your YouTube channels, here are some video ideas to that will build your origin story:

💡 Your thoughts on the current trends in your industry

💡 Tell us where you see this channel going & future hopes

💡 Tell us a silly beginner mistake you made a year or two ago

💡 Make a commentary video on why you look up to certain experts

Finally, deleting your old videos does nothing for your channel’s performance — all it does is erode your credibility and personal brand.
